Pleural Thickening Claims

Pleural thickening is a debilitating and often irreversible condition. If you have developed pleural thickening due to employer negligence or medical negligence, you could be entitled to pursue a claim. Contact us for more information.

What is pleural thickening?

Pleural thickening is when the membrane surrounding the lungs – called the pleura – suffers scarring. This causes the pleura to harden, making it hard to breathe. It can affect one or both lungs.

Pleural thickening is primarily associated with asbestos exposure. Asbestos particles are inhaled and embedded in the pleura, causing them to scar. If this occurs in small areas it is known as pleural plaques. But if the thickening is widespread, resulting in breathing difficulties, it is called pleural thickening.

Pleural thickening can also be caused by pneumonia, tumours, cancer treatment, injured ribs, pulmonary embolism and Pleural Thickening Claims.

Pleural thickening claims

Pleural thickening is a frequent source of litigation. In particular, claims arise because someone has developed pleural thickening after being exposed to asbestos in the workplace. Employers have a duty to protect their staff from harm; if an employee develops pleural thickening because of asbestos, there will be grounds for a personal injury claim.

There may also be grounds for a compensation claim if medical error caused or exacerbated a patient's pleural thickening. For instance, if medical practitioners failed to diagnose and treat Pleural Thickening Claims in time, it could cause permanent scarring on the lungs. This can adversely affect future function.

Pleural thickening claims solicitor

If you want to know whether you are able to pursue a claim for pleural thickening, you need to speak to a solicitor who works in personal injury or medical negligence (depending who your potential claim is against). A solicitor will listen to the details of your case before suggesting whether or not you are eligible to pursue legal action.

If you do make a claim and it is successful, you will be awarded compensation for the pain and suffering you have experienced. You will also be given compensation to recover the money you have lost. This can be substantial, particularly if you have been forced to give up work or reduce your working hours.
