"I have recently emerged from the other side of a cauda equina medical negligence case which was successfully concluded thanks to the incredibly diligent work of Glynns. I cannot thank Lucy, Paul, and their team at Glynns enough for all the work they did in achieving this, as well as the vindication that I was treated negligently, and I have absolutely no hesitation whatsoever in recommending them to anyone who may have the misfortune to find themselves in a similar situation as myself."

The Permanent Effects Of Cauda Equina Syndrome

The Cauda Equina are a group of nerves at the bottom of the spinal cord. It is the compression of these nerves for a prolonged period of time which can cause permanent damage to them.

The compression can be caused by slipped disc, a tumour, or a crushing injury.

The permanent effects of cauda equina syndrome can be incredibly serious anc can include the following:

  • pain in the area of the cauda equina (the lower back);
  • loss of sexual function;
  • urinary difficulties; and
  • weakness in the legs.

Minimising The Permanent Effects Of Cauda Equina

The permanent effects of Cauda Equina Syndrome can be minimalised by the compression being relieved as soon as possible. If your medical team fail to take swift action when they have diagnosed the compression, or they fail to diagnose the compression, this can lead to more permanent effects and may also lead to a medical negligence claim. Action should be taken within 48 hours of the compression to minimalise the permanent effects.

The Permanent Effects Of Cauda Equina Syndrome

Permanent effects caused by a failure to treat the compression can include:-

  • Paralysis (total or partial paralysis);
  • Sexual dysfunction;
  • Lower back pain;
  • Urinary dysfunction;
  • Bowel dysfunction;
  • Weakness in the legs;

If you or a family member have experienced Cauda Equina Syndrome and are unsure whether the long term effects could have been reduced or even avoided altogether, please do not sit their and worry. Please call us and let us explain your options, free of charge and without obligation.
