If you or a loved one are suffering partial or complete loss of hearing due to negligent medical care, it may be possible to make a claim for compensation. Contact Glynns to talk with a legal specialist.
The right to compensation
If a patient suffers an adverse outcome due to negligent medical care, they are legally entitled to make a claim for compensation. A successful claim takes account of not only the patient's pain and suffering but also the financial impact of the negligence. For example, if a patient is no longer able to work or is restricted in the nature or hours of work they can undertake due to the effects of the poor care, their income loss would be included in a claim.
Additionally, if the patient's unexpected and debilitating symptoms mean that they require additional care and support, those costs could also be incorporated into the compensation claim.
Deafness and negligent care
Negligent medical care can occur in a number of different ways, causing a reduction in the quality of the patient's hearing:
- An error in the course of a surgical procedure may cause damage to the patient's auditory system, leaving them suffering irreversible loss of hearing
- A failure of diagnosis or a misdiagnosis of a related condition may cause a delay in treatment, thereby allowing the patient to suffer hearing loss as a result
- Incorrect prescription of the drug gentamicin can also causing hearing difficulties and losses
The impact of hearing loss
The loss of an individual's ability to hear can have a wide-ranging and debilitating impact on many aspects of their quality of life. Not least of these can be their abioity to work. Depending on the nature of their employment, a person may find that they struggle to work or are entirely unable to continue in the same type of employment. They may need to retrain or to find a new type of employment. It is quite possible that they will suffer a loss of income as a result of their negligent medical care.
If medical experts find that the individual's difficulties have been caused by the substandard medical care they have received, it would be possible to make a claim for compensation.
