Cannot Live At Home Because of Medical Errors

Cannot Live At Home Because of Medical Errors

Have medical errors caused you or your loved one such harm that it is now impossible to live at home?

Unfortunately we regularly hear about people who have been so badly injured by medical mistakes that they must now live in a nursing home, care home or warden controlled accommodation.

If this has happened to you or your spouse/family member, please get in touch with us to discuss taking legal action. If there has been a case of medical negligence, you will be able to pursue a claim for compensation.

Too unwell to return home after illness

There are often times when someone is admitted to hospital and is then deemed too unwell to return home, perhaps because they do not have the physical and/or mental capacity to look after themselves.

Such stories are normally associated with elderly relatives who perhaps take a fall, or live in a house that is not suitable for their condition.

Medical mistakes

However, there are also occasions when a patient is referred to a nursing or care home because they have been severely injured by medical mistakes. This can affect individuals of any age, including children, young adults, middle-aged people and the elderly.

Ordinarily, this will happen when the patient suffers severe cognitive and/or physical impairment as a result of an illness that has not been diagnosed and treated in time.

Consequently the patient is left with injuries so extensive that their family is unable to care for them at home – possibly because round-the-clock nursing care is needed, or specialist equipment (such as hoists) is required.

Separated from the family unit

Whatever the reason, if you (or your loved one) have been unable to return home after going into hospital, you will be facing a very upsetting situation.

Having someone removed from the family environment is very traumatic for all concerned. It can be particularly difficult if the patient has dependants, such as young children, or an elderly parent or spouse.

It can also be a significant financial strain, as care home fees will not be paid by the state. This can leave families wondering how they are going to pay for the care that is required.

Suing the hospital

If you have been placed in this position, we understand that you will be very angry. Your life will have been turned upside down due to medical errors, all of which could have been avoided with better medical care.

Although nothing can take back the terrible damage that has been done, it may be possible for you to take legal action against the clinician or hospital at fault. This will provide you with some form of justice, and will also help to recover all the finances lost.
