Bunion Returned After Surgery

Bunion Returned After Surgery

If your bunion has returned shortly after surgery, it may be that the operation was performed to a substandard level. If so, you could be entitled to claim compensation for the damages incurred. Contact us today to find out more.

Bunions

A bunion is a bony prominence at the base of the big toe. For some a bunion may not cause any problems, but for others the bulge at the side of the foot will be painful, and will rub inside their shoes. If a bunion is painful, a patient may choose to have it surgically corrected. This is the only way to resolve the defect, as conservative methods merely manage a patient's symptoms.

Recurrent bunions

Even with surgery, there is the possibility that the bunion will return. This is known as a recurrent bunion. Unfortunately there is little that can be done to prevent recurrent bunions, as the defect simply returns against over time. Before the operation, a patient should be advised of this risk, ensuring they are fully informed in advance of signing a consent form.

Recurrent bunions and medical negligence

However, recurrent bunions take some years to materialise. A patient who has had corrective bunion surgery should enjoy the benefits for an extended period of time. If the bunion returns after just weeks or months, it is very likely that the bunion was not properly corrected in the first place. If so, the level of medical care will be considered substandard.

Claiming for a recurrent bunion

If your bunion has returned shortly after surgery, you need to find out what has gone wrong. If it is found that the surgeon did not correct the bunion properly, there could be grounds for a medical negligence compensation claim. This may either happen because he/she chose the wrong procedure, or because he/she carried out the procedure poorly.

Solicitors for negligent bunion surgery

To speak to a solicitor about your bunion surgery, please get in touch with us today. We will be able to suggest whether or not you have been the innocent victim of medical negligence. If we believe there is a case to be answered, we will pursue a claim on your behalf, working hard to obtain the compensation you deserve.

In medical negligence claims, compensation is awarded for the pain, suffering and loss of amenity you have endured. This can include the pain of living with a bunion and the inconvenience of undergoing a second corrective procedure.
