As recently reported by the BBC, surgeons at Walsall Manor Hospital have destroyed a woman’s chances of having further children by removing the wrong fallopian tube.
Chelsie Thomas was suffering with an ectopic pregnancy, where a fertilised egg had become stuck in her right fallopian tube instead of moving into the womb.
Unfortunately, an error was made during the procedure to resolve the ectopic pregnancy and her healthy left fallopian tube was incorrectly removed instead of the right one.
Such an incident would be described by the NHS as a ‘never event’ because, put simply, this sort of mistake should never occur.
Ms Thomas has been left infertile.
