Recent research reported in The Guardian suggests that, although many women have no long-term problems as a result of having had a breast implant, considerable numbers do, in fact, suffer serious side-effects.
The research project looked at the experience of women in several countries worldwide and demonstrated that this is a global issue.
Data would seem to suggest that problems associated with breast implants can take many forms such as movement of the implant, rupturing, allergic reactions and association with additional health problems including cancer.
According to The Guardian, there have been 1,459 issues reported with regard to breast implants in the UK in the last three years, more than three-quarters of which were serious. On some occasions, further surgery is necessary to resolve the problem.
