The second vaccine against Covid-19 to be authorised by the UK government starts implementation today.
Following the introduction of the Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine in early December, the vaccine developed by the University of Oxford in collaboration with Astra Zeneca, has now joined the fight against Covid-19.
According to the BBC, six hospital trusts have begun the vaccination programme with the new vaccine and the government is hoping to increase the rate of vaccination rapidly to reach two million people a week. Residents in care homes, the elderly and those considered to be vulnerable have been identified as the groups which will take priority in the vaccination programme.
More than half a million people in the UK have already been vaccinated, prioritising care home and health works and the elderly in hospital.
