New statistics and recent events indicate that NHS patients in Wales are likely to experience greater delays and increased waiting times in comparison to their peers in England.
Statistics taken from the Patient Episode Database for Wales, and revealed by the BBC this week, show that waiting times for a wide range of treatments are significantly longer in Wales than in England.
Hip operation patients may have to wait an average of 215 days for surgery in comparison to their English counterparts whose average wait time is 82 days.
Heart bypass patients in Wales may have to wait almost twice as long as those in England before undergoing surgery.
The ambulance service in Wales is also clearly under considerable pressure as waiting time targets are being exceeded even for serious cases. Statistics identify that, between December 2017 and February 2018, almost 2,000 emergency calls were not attended for more than six hours.
An elderly man in Swansea died recently after waiting 23 hours for an ambulance to attend after he fell.
