As reported by the BBC last week, NHS England and NHS Improvement are to commission an independent review into maternity services in East Kent following a number of avoidable deaths of babies.
There has been a lack of clarity as to the numbers involved but the Chief Executive of the Trust has apparently identified 15 possible preventable baby deaths since 2011.
The Care Quality Commission and the Healthcare Safety Investigation Branch are said to be also investigating what has occurred at East Kent NHS Foundation Trust.
In the meantime, an independent specialist support team has been sent to support maternity services at the Trust.
