A police investigation has begun after an elderly patient was found with serious injuries at a hospital in South Wales.
Tegwen Roderick, an 88 year old woman from Merthyr Tydfil, was being treated at Ysbyty Cwm Cynon in Mountain Ash.
During a routine patient care round she was found with injuries which police describe as “serious and unexplained”.
She was immediately transferred to a larger hospital but died six days later. The exact nature of her injuries are yet to be revealed.
Ten staff at Ysbyty Cwm Cynon were initially suspended, although this measure has now been lifted for six of them.
The hospital’s chief executive Allison Williams said: “In investigations such as this, staff may be suspended as a precautionary measure.
“As is normal practice in any investigation such suspensions are reviewed on an ongoing basis. We can confirm that six suspensions have already been lifted and arrangements are being made for those staff to return to work.
“We will continue to review the remaining suspensions as the investigation proceeds.”
