Two of our solicitors recently attended a charity lunch in aid of Wooden Spoon, the children’s charity of rugby.
Julie Glynn and Tony Grady were invited to the event at Jury’s Hotel in Bristol by our legal insurance provider, ARAG plc, who helped sponsor the occasion. All the proceeds went to Wooden Spoon, a brilliant charity that gives disabled and poverty stricken children the chance to fulfil their potential.
The charity was founded 30 years ago after a group of friends watched England lose to Ireland in the Five Nations Cup. While drowning their sorrows in a Dublin pub they were presented with a wooden spoon by their Irish acquaintances.
The friends subsequently held a charity golf match to decide who should keep the wooden spoon. The money raised bought a mini-bus for a local school, and so the idea of a charity which harnesses the values and spirit of rugby was born.
Three decades later Wooden Spoon continues to do great work up and down the country, and it is a charity we are pleased to support.
