A new study notes cancer treatment delays worsen.
The BBC has revealed that one in six cancer patients is now having to wait longer than the target time of 62 days before they start their treatment. It is alleged that it is almost two and a half years since this target was last met across England.
Such delays may be due to pressure on the system as well as staff shortages which prompted the cancellation and postponement of thousands of operations earlier this year.
A delay in treatment is not only distressing for the patient and their family. It can also lead to a deterioration in the patient’s condition leading to a significantly worse outcome.
