Following a Freedom of Information request, the BBC has revealed the concerns expressed in an independent review of Warrington Hospital where surgery was suspended in the spinal unit in 2017.
According to the BBC report, four serious incidents occurred in the spinal unit at the hospital, including the deaths of two patients.
The review, carried out by The Royal College of Surgeons, questioned insufficient oversight by senior consultants, inconsistent assessments of patients and questionable decision-making.
Surgery remains suspended at the unit and, according to the BBC report, should not resume until these ‘patient safety’ issues have been addressed.
