Based on the analysis of urine samples, the new research aims to pinpoint the degree of risk for the progression of prostate cancer.
This latest study is led by the University of East Anglia with the support of Prostate Cancer UK and Movember in collaboration with Nottingham University Hospitals NHS Trust.
The Principal Investigator for the study, Mr Will Green, is reported as observing that, although most patients with low-risk prostate cancer demonstrate slow progression, “prostate cancer is very complex and risk levels vary between each man. There is an urgent need for improvements in diagnosis and predicting outcomes.”
Ascertaining such information will enable the initiation of treatment for those in need whilst reducing over-treatment for those at low risk.
Prostate cancer is the most common cancer in men in the UK and causes approximately 11,000 deaths each year.
