Negligent Medical Care of Fournier's Gangrene and How to Claim Compensation

Negligent Medical Care of Fournier's Gangrene and How to Claim CompensationFournier's gangrene can be utterly devastating to the life of the person suffering from this distressing infection. If negligent medical care has contributed to a poor outcome, speak to a medical negligence solicitor about making a claim for compensation.

What is fournier's gangrene and why does it matter?

Fournier's gangrene is a specific form of necrotising fasciitis. It is a virulent and damaging soft-tissue infection which affects the perineal and genital region although it can spread beyond that if diagnosis is delayed.

As with necrotising fasciitis, this appalling infection destroys the cells which it infects and spreads rapidly, affecting an increasing area of tissue and threatening the functioning of the sexual organs and the bowel.

It requires early diagnosis and emergency surgery to remove all infected tissue as the only way to prevent further spread and destruction.

Negligent medical care

Time is of the essence in the diagnosis and treatment of this appalling illness and delays can leave the patient struggling with an appalling catalogue of symptoms, possibly psychological and cognitive as well as physical in nature.

Although not necessarily easy to diagnose, any suspicion or concern regarding a patient's symptoms should prompt a medical professional to seek specialist advice or intervention.

A misdiagnosis or a delay, whether in the GP surgery or in hospital, in making a referral can prove to be utterly catastrophic for the patient's long-term health and well-being.

Not only may the infection have spread during any delay, but the degree of tissue removal necessary to remove the infection will also have increased, causing even greater physical damage to the patient.

How to claim compensation

If you suspect that either you or a loved one have suffered due to negligent medical care of a Fournier's gangrene infection, your first step is to talk to a specialist medical negligence solicitor.

If appropriate, they will be able to obtain copies of your medical records and engage the best medical experts to analyse the quality of your care.

If it is found that you have experienced negligent care during the medical management of your fournier's gangrene infection, they will assess the impact of the negligence on your long-term well-being and its financial implications.
